Nichols Diversified Industries delivers a 32’ x 11’-8” recreational aluminum landing craft catamaran to its home port on Blakely Island in the San Juan Islands in mid June. This catamaran will serve as a recreational vessel for day cruising and sport fishing.

The vessel incorporates a unique asymmetrical hull and a powerful pair of Volvo Penta D6-370-DPH duo-prop diesel stern drive engines, delivering a total of 740 hp, to achieve a top speed of 42 knots while still maintaining a smooth comfortable ride. The fine entry hull is constructed from 5086 aluminum alloy with 1/4” bottom and 3/16” side plate. The hull form is designed to handle heavy sea states for reliable rough water operation. Fuel capacity is 300 gallons for a range of over 550 miles at a cruise speed of 38 knots. The asymmetric hull form allows for very low resistance/high-speed application, and comfortable inboard banking.

Justin Nichols, NDI President stated, “this vessel platform makes for an excellent patrol/military vessel or emergency response and recovery vessel, and we already have several groups interested.” All structural parts are CNC router cut from CAD drawings for accuracy and fully welded for superior strength.

Special equipment includes a 42” wide, electrically operated bow door landing ramp for remote beach landings as well as push knee dock landings, a transom walkway door for easy walk through boarding from the aft swim platform. A commercial rated davit with foot switch activated pot puller, Cannon downriggers, and an aft control station for full vessel operation control including the 15hp Honda kicker motor for use while trolling for fish. Engine room access is provided by two large 36”x72” hatches with gas shock lift assist. Other features include a stout 3 ½” diameter tow bitt, stylish wrap around cockpit handrails, roof lashing rails for storage of dingy and crab pots, non-skid deck coating for exterior decks, large Yeti cooler/bench seat, aft exterior bench seat, and swim-step platform fold away ladder.

Interior features include custom upholstery with ballistic nylon and seating for 10, generous storage space, Alpine/Polk Audio stereo system, and state of the art 3D Furuno Navnet electronics. Safety items include an engine room fire suppression system with automatic engine shutdown, high powered spot and flood lights, forward docking lights and hull-mounted camera for landing assistance.
