Nichols Diversified Industries has completed successful sea trials and prepares for final delivery of “Panchita”, a 45’ x 15’ aluminum Pilot Boat, for an international conglomerate based in Mexico City, Mexico. She is powered by a pair of Volvo-Penta D9-425 engines with Twin Disc 5082A 2:1 marine gears and turns 32” x 28” 5 blade NiBral props. Fuel capacity is 400 gallons. Free run speed was recorded at 21 knots via GPS.
“Panchita” was designed in house by NDI for open water operation in seas up to a Beaufort 8 rating. Based on a similar design as their previously delivered line handling boats for the same ownership group, NDI worked directly with the operational group and designed the vessel to their specific requirements and needs. She is equipped with a small galley, full head, air conditioning, Furuno electronics, Teleflex hydraulic power steering and seating for up to 6 pilots plus operator and navigator.
NDI again has used Soflite, an ionomer foam fendering collar, to absorb impacts while positioning for pilot transfer. Foredeck and aft deck railings are positioned to ensure Pilot safety while on deck and are removable to allow the vessel to be used as an additional line handling vessel if required. An 8” aft deck tow bit, and forward Sampson post were also installed. The stern platform and removable boarding ladder are in place to assist with man overboard recovery.
“Panchita” will be trucked to San Diego and go into service in the 2nd quarter of 2009
